The Night of the Iguana - Trudging storyline based on Tennessee Williams play. Recovered alcoholic clergyman Burton, a bus-journey guide in Mexico, becomes involved with Kerr, Gardner, and Lyon. Dorothy Jeakins won an Oscar for her costumes. Cast includes Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr, Ava Gardner, Sue Lyon, Skip Ward, Grayson Chamber, and Cyril Delevanti. (118 minutes, 1964)

Like Water for Chocolate - Striking and intense film from a novel by Laura Esquivel set in the early part of the 20th century - a young woman’s life is conditioned by her somber and uncompromising mom, who treats her terribly. Superb tale, not without humor, with an excellent cast and a top of the line performance from lead actress Cavazos. Cast includes Lumi Cavazos, Marco Leonardi, Regina Tome, Mario Ivan Martinez, and Ada Carrasco. (113 minutes, 1992)

Mysterious Lady - An Austrian armed forces officer (Nagel) falls in love with Garbo, naive that she is a Russian agent. Another artificial plot made serviceable by Garbo herself. Cast includes Greta Garbo, Conrad Nagel, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Albert Pollet, and Edward Connelly. (96 minutes, 1928)

The Indian in the Cupboard - A boy (Scardino) acquires an old chest as a birthday present, and finds that when he sets a toy Indian inside and turns the key, the Indian comes to life. Then he sees that the Indian is not a toy, however a authentic individual. Problems follow, particularly while his best playmate brings to life a toy cowboy. Cast includes Hal Scardino, Lindsay Crouse, Richard Jenkins, Rishi Bhat, and Nestor Serrano. (96 minutes, 1995)
